  • Are you passionate about the relationships and interactions between humans and the natural world?
  • Are you concerned about human impact on the planet?
  • Do you see yourself addressing the lack of access to potable water and quality, and solving water management puzzles facing today’s society?

Environmental Sciences and water management may be for you. Our continent and the world at large are suffering from:

  • The over-exploitation of natural resources
  • The degradation of natural habitat
  • Rapid climate change
  • Drought
  • Rain Water Harvesting
  • Water
  • logging

This program will assist you to address some of the eminent environmental and water management challenges facing Africans and the globe.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Our program has a solid focus on project-based, computational analysis, and data-driven innovation. As you may know, there is a growing demand for project-based and data-based skills in a variety of employment sectors.

WE WILL TEACH YOU TO:
  • Understand the science to contribute to challenging water management questions and policy
  • Be conversant with the conflicts between humans and the natural world – and how human activities are changing the world
  • Utilize management skills and enhanced planning to develop innovative solutions to water management and environmental problems.
PROJECT-BASED TEACHING AND LIFE-CHANGING FIELD TRIPS

Project-based teaching and field trips are at the heart of programs offered at PAC-LAB HITMS, and so of this program. This program emphasizes project-based learning and practical and field-based experiences. These are great opportunities to get your hands dirty!

For instance, you could be:

  • Learning how people in Cameroon manage agriculture, manage land for conservation and forestry
  • Journeying through the forest, taking leaf samples, and measuring trees
  • Taking advantage of the botanic garden, and applying your skills to field conservation in remote areas and the wild.

You may also learn how to use several field tools, such as:

  • Estimating carbon stocks of forests
  • Collecting water samples
  • Assessing water quality and biodiversity
  • Calculating and measuring the rate of photosynthesis
  • Evaluating the influence of soil chemical properties on vegetation

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Environmental science deals with the study of the interactions between humans and the environment, and the interest in solving problems. The environment is an everlasting topic as it positively and negatively impacts us daily. We live, eat and breathe in our environment, and we constantly interact with it to meet our daily needs. The environment is a topic that is always relevant. It also demonstrates to others that you are enthusiastic about it. It communicates to them that there is a part of their lives that you believe should be discussed; This encourages potential people, clients, and customers to associate more closely with your brand or company’s message. The discipline of Environmental Sciences is to train and develop well-equipped and highly skilled manpower to address and tackle 21st-century environmental challenges. These challenges are related to environmental change, the development of sustainable resources (water, energy, and agriculture), and chemical management. Our objectives include training students who will be able to recognize the threats to the environment of Cameroon and the world today, and advise possible solutions required. This would, therefore, require flexible cross-disciplinary curricula covering knowledge of both natural and physical sciences. This will also ensure wide access to practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of the scientific processes, procedures, and policies involved in the day-to-day management of the environment. We have well-equipped laboratories and libraries, and we make available internships for our students and field trips suited for their courses.
