Field trips are interdisciplinary and are at the heart of programs offered at PAC-LAB HITMS. The real world is the most important classroom, thus going beyond the classroom helps you apply your learning to real-life scenarios and understand how the world works. Our programs emphasize field-based experiences. For instance, you could be:
- Learning how people in Cameroon manage agriculture, manage land for conservation and forestry
- Journeying through the forest, taking leaf samples, and measuring trees
- Take advantage of the botanic garden, and apply your skills to field conservation in remote areas and the wild.
- You may also learn how to use several field tools
How Are Field Trips Done?
Field trips at PAC-LAB HITMS are second to no other in the country! We follow a very coordinated and well-thought-out approach before engaging in field trips. Students are pre-informed on the when, how, and what of every field trip. A Faculty member (teaching staff) and students both sit and plan on what they intend to achieve for every field trip and clear objectives are set out on how this will support students' overall learning. Scholars take field trips as a serious and natural classroom from where wells of real-world knowledge are experienced.
Thinking about reporting after a field trip?
No two field trips are the same! Report formats are established and students are properly guided on exactly how to establish field trip reports before they embark on any field trips. The academic officer and deans of studies are always at the disposal of faculty and students to walk them through each process.
What is the frequency of field trips?
Each program in PAC-LAB HITMS has compulsory field trips. A minimum of three and a maximum of six field trips are strongly recommended per field of study for each academic year, especially for HND programs that are practice-intensive. Please check out with your department head for further guidance.
Concerns about Your Safety?
No worries! “Safety first” is our slogan in our practical learning approach. We understand the stakes involved and take all necessary measures before, during, and after every field trip. Please report all cases of doubt regarding any planned field trips to the student affairs office.
Am I charged for field trips?
Field trips at PAC-LAB HITMS are categorized under two types:
Mandatory/compulsory field trips: These are field trips necessitated by the type of learning approach adopted by the institution. These field trips are factored in student training and thus, students are not charged for these field trips.
Faculty-students arrange field trips: sometimes, one field trip may give rise to another field trip or an important class discussion or project may warrant a field trip exposure. Learning is an exciting experience. Though we recommend all field trips to be duly planned, in situations where both the students and faculty deem this particular field as an important factor and a follow-up learning process, they bear the cost of this field trip.
Note: All such arrangements must bear the visa (stamp) of the Head of department and approval of the Dean of studies concerned.
